Protecting constitutional rights
In a prior civil rights lawsuit, co-counsel and I uncovered evidence of a conspiracy by law enforcement in Pima County to intentionally ignore decisions of the United States Supreme Court and Arizona Supreme Court. The United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit wrote a groundbreaking and precedent-setting civil rights opinion holding law enforcement liable for intentionally violating a suspect's Miranda rights. In 1994, I was voted Trial Lawyer of the Year by the American Trial Lawyers for Public Justice because for my work on this case.
- Contingency basis: Civil rights cases are among the most complex and costly of all civil litigation. Government entities have limitless resources to fight. Typically, clients do not have the funds to pay an hourly fee in costs to seek representation to vindicate their rights. I understand that, and am willing to accept selected civil rights cases to vindicate important legal rights. Unfortunately, I am only able to accept a tiny fraction of the valid cases that are presented to me.
- Legal knowledge: Civil rights cases demand an attorney who knows the law and how to develop complex strategies that take into account all the factors involved. I am an experienced civil rights defense attorney.
- Trial and appellate experience: When government agencies are accused of civil rights violations, they fight long and hard. I have extensive trial and appellate experience and am not afraid to fight them.
